About the Client

The client is Inkuru-Nziza, a Christian ministry with an established history of community service, education, social outreach, and healthcare delivery in Rwanda.

The project centres on a proposed rural health care facility serving remote mountain communities with poor access to medical services.

Project Challenge

To test whether a viable health facility could be planned on a steep, remote, and constrained mountain site while addressing urgent healthcare needs. The brief had to respond to difficult access, steep topography, limited usable land, and a complex medical programme including maternity, emergency, nutrition, outpatient, dental, and optometry services.

MMM South Africa’s Involvement

Project link, donor-facing support, and technical participation alongside eMi South Africa. MMM South Africa helped connect and support the process, while eMi South Africa led the investigation and master planning. The master plan was developed to create something tangible that could be presented to donors considering involvement, and was specifically requested by the Help Charitable Trust in Australia.

Technical disciplines involved

Architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering, surveying, water and sewer planning, phasing, and cost estimation. This was not just a sketch exercise; it was a multidisciplinary master-planning and feasibility process.

Key result, learning or implementation outcome

A tangible donor-facing master plan was produced to support engagement, decision-making, and future fundraising for a phased rural health facility. The work translated ministry vision and community need into a concrete proposal that could be discussed with stakeholders and potential funders, rather than leaving the project as a vague idea.
